QUETTA: A man was killed and 19 other people, two children and three women among them, were injured in a bomb explosion near the busy Meezan Chowk in the heart of the city on Sunday.

Police suspected that the man killed was carrying the bomb that exploded before he could place it in the area.

A large number of families were busy shopping when the bomb went off near Baldia Plaza.

Frontier Corps personnel and police took the body and the injured to the Civil Hospital.

“Four people have suffered severe injuries,” hospital sources said, adding that hands and the front part of the body were blown up.

Bomb Disposal Squad officials said the condition of the body suggested the man was carrying the bomb to plant it at some designated place.

The deceased could not be identified till late night.

Security personnel cordoned off the area after the explosion and launched an investigation, but no arrest was reported.
