DADU: Six people died from heatstroke on Sunday that also sent another 36 children to the Dadu Civil Hospital as the temperatures rose to 50 degrees Celsius and played havoc with the district’s electric supply system.
Most areas of Dadu city remained without electricity for more than 10 hours.
People in large numbers held demonstrations in different parts of the town against Wapda-Sepco authorities for failing to ensure an interrupted power supply and replace 14 burnt out transformers.
They also criticised the hospital administration for poor treatment arrangements.
Meanwhile, most senior Wapda-Sepco officers were found absent from their workplaces when power consumers visited the customer service offices to lodge complaints of outages.
Superintendent Engineer Asadullah Shaikh speaking to Dawn said that he and several other officers were at present in Sukkur for a meeting.
