Rural women

Published July 6, 2015

IN the remote rural regions of Sindh, women perform the same tasks as men. They work in the fields till 1pm and return home to make lunch for their family and go back to work in the fields/lands till late evening.

On the other hand, the men only work for a few hours, and watch movies in the tea stalls of their villages or pass their time playing cards or gossiping.

I believe women are the main pillars of any society. It is they who have the most responsibility for the family, the community and the nation. I wonder if the prime minister can do anything to empower women and uplift their living standards.

In this regard, social activists, women empowerment and welfare agencies and the prime minister himself should initiate schemes to bring them some comfort, which should also include a women equality bill. Moreover, vocational training centers must be set up to boost their skills and abilities. This will help uplift the lot of rural women.
