Naved plays another electrifying knock

KARACHI: Opener Naved Malik played a sterling knock of 91 as Rivo Mobile whipped Mohammad Hussain CC by eight wickets in the 28th Aga Khan Gymkhana Ramazan Cricket Tournament for the State Life Trophy here on Thursday.

The right-han­der from Rawalpindi smashed six sixes and seven boundaries during his whirlwind un­bea­ten 51-ball innings which enabled his side to smash 181-2 midway through the 18th over as Rivo Mobile recorded their second successive victory in Group ‘B’ at the AKG Ground.

Asif Ali also made a useful contribution of 38 not out from 33 deliveries with the aid of two sixes and as many fours while sharing an unbroken stand of 116 with man-of-the-match Naved.

Opener Bismillah Khan earlier set the tone with a blazing 17-ball 41 featuring six boundaries and a brace of boundaries.

Earlier, Mohammad Hussain CC collected 178-7 in the allotted 20 overs. Azam Khan, son of former Pakistan captain and ex-chief selector Moin Khan, contributed 59 off 35 balls with four sixes and as many fours.

The left-handed Ali Waqas also negotiated the same number of balls to score 51 with 10 boundaries while Sohail Khan blasted 24 off 12 balls with three four and a six.

Promising leg-spinner Usama Mir grabbed three wickets for 33 runs and slow left armer Faisal Iqbal took two for 19.
