SHEIKHUPURA: Dozens of shopkeepers of Nankana Sahib Ramazan Bazaar closed their stalls in protest against the alleged misbehaviour of Assistant Commissioner (AC).

The protesters gathered in front of the press club and chanted slogans against the rude attitude of the AC. They said the AC was pressurising them to sell their products at the lowest rates and misbehaving with them. The AC was not available for comments.

ACCIDENTS: Three people were killed while 14 others sustained injuries in two accidents here on Thursday.

In second incident, a woman, identified as Razia, was killed while 13 passengers were injured when a truck hit their van on the GT Road near Kala Shah Kaku. The van was on its way to Gujranwala from Lahore when it tried to overtake the truck and hit it. As a result, the woman died on the spot while 13 passengers sustained injuries, five of them seriously. They were taken to hospitals in Lahore and Muridke.

The second incident took place near Khanqah Dogran. One Tasawwar was going on a motorcycle along with his son, Shahbaz, and daughter, Mehwish, when a speeding truck hit their motorcycle. As a result, Tasawwar and Shahbaz were killed while Mehwish received injuries. The truck driver escaped.

SEWERAGE: The citizens have demanded District Coordinator Officer (DCO) Kiran Khurshid issue orders for improvement in sewerage before the start of the monsoon.

The Citizen Welfare Society, during a meeting, said the tehsil municipal authority (TMA) did not take any action on its complaints and the dozens of low-lying localities of the city had submerged in the rainwater after rain on June 17.

The TMA had spent Rs40m on drainage and sewerage system in the city but due to substandard work the system was not functioning properly, it said. The participants in the meeting demanded an inquiry into the negligence by TMA officials and contractors.
