APROPOS the article ‘Quo Vadis? Pakistan’ by Ashraf Jahangir Qazi (June 30). The first para refers to the population of our beloved motherland and its future. The rest deals with its pathetic plight. Among them is a statement that national interest is the lowest priority of the powers that be. In addition, there were also recommendations made about how to rectify the situation.

In my humble opinion, in addition to the recommendations that were made, the need of the hour is the control of the population explosion. This can be achieved by involving our religious scholars and the Council of Islamic Ideology.

They would be a great help to the nation if our clergy help address the problem of over-population, health and education by stressing that these are the basics of human rights as laid down in the principles of Islam.
