QUETTA: Balochistan Chief Minister Dr Abdul Malik Baloch has said that Iran and Afghanistan should jointly fight terrorism in order to ensure durable peace in the region, adding that good ties between Iran and the United States would yield positive results.

He was speaking to Iranian Consul General Syed Hasan Yahya who called on him here on Wednesday.

Pakistan-Iran trade, supply of an additional 30MW of electricity by Iran to Makran, law and order and border issues came under discussion.

The chief minister said that people of Pakistan and Iran had decade-old historical and cultural relations. “The betterment in law and order situation and a boost in Iran’s economy directly and indirectly benefits Balochistan,” he said.

Dr Malik Baloch said that Iran’s good ties with the US and other developed countries would have a positive impact on the region.

Referring to trade with Iran through Balochistan, the chief minister said he himself would monitor it, adding that the holding of meetings of the committees concerned in this regard would be ensured.
