FAISALABAD: The University of Agriculture, Faisalabad (UAF), administration earmarked a piece of land for construction of a church on the campus and laid its foundation stone on Sunday.

Talking to participants of the ceremony, MNA Haji Akram Ansari said the government was making all-out efforts to protect minorities’ rights so they could play their active role in the development of the country.

He said minorities had played their due role in the building of the country and hoped they would continue working for the development with the same spirit.

UAF Vice Chancellor Dr Iqrar Ahmad stressed upon the need to encourage a culture of peace, care and love through interfaith harmony. He said Islam is a religion of peace and provided excellent rights to everyone, including minorities.

He said the Christian community had demanded 1.5 kanals for the church, however, the university had earmarked three kanals keeping in view future needs.

He also said the university would provide funds for construction from its own resources.
