SC orders re-election in Haripur's NA-19

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court of Pakistan on Friday ordered re-election in NA-19 constituency, Haripur.

A three-judge bench of the apex court headed by Justice Jawwad S. Khawaja heard a review petition pertaining to irregularities during the elections held in Haripur and ordered fresh polls.

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) candidate Omer Ayub had won the constituency during the May 2013 general elections.

Later his rival Raja Amir Zaman was declared winner after a re-count in the constituency.

Later in January 2014, Omer Ayub Khan won elections for the NA-19 seat, by securing 2,852 votes against Zaman Khan, who bagged 2,263 votes at seven polling stations in the constituency, where people couldn’t cast their votes during the 2013 general elections.

Runner-up candidate Raja Aamir Zaman had challenged the results in an election tribunal.

The tribunal declared Ayub as winning candidate and Zaman approached the SC against the tribunal’s decision.

After initial hearings, the SC also upheld the tribunal’s decision. After hearing the case under a review petition, the apex court ordered re-election in Haripur's NA-19 constituency.

There is nothing more important left in this country except rigging allegations, recount, repoll, thump impression verification, bags seal etc. For God sake give this nation a break. Election in this country is a rare exercise. In most cases its not rigging but lack of capacity and training and half hearted approach of the incompetent administration and ECP. How long and how deep we will dig this issue when those who made tall claims of having undeniable evidence failed to produced any in the JC while still busy speculating for political point scoring. If PTI come into power in next elections they will face similar challenges and the vicious cycle of rigging allegations, recount, repoll, thump impression verification, bags seals will continue.

All these court order, tribunal orders, and wastage of time and money all point to what hopeless department is the election commission. They need to be prosecuted and dismantled.

Enough! after May 2013 elections PTI won this seat by a little margin, PMLN challenges in EC wins the seat after re-balloting in 7 polling stations. PTI challenges the re-balloting and after 18 months wins the case in SC. This is an alarming trend. Instead of re-elections, punish the culprits who failed to conduct polls in first place! ROs, POs, Administration and entire ECP.

The grandfather of Mr Omer Ayub Khan our only Field Marshal Ayub Khan is responsible for the degradation of civil service.Prior to 1958 the Civil service was selected under merit system but by removing more than 300 senior bureaucrates and filling the place on nepotism resulted in the mess ,Pakistan got into. Now we can't conduct a fair election.Nations are built by true leaders.
