KARAK: The residents of Kurd Sharif, Shownaki Deta Mine and other adjacent localities took to streets against the shortage of teachers in the lone middle school for boys in the area and blocked Kurd-Mianwali Road here on Saturday.

The protesters were led by former nazim Ikhtiar Rehman, Parent Teacher Council Chairman of the school Amanullah. They demanded of the authorities to upgrade the school.

They said that total population of the area was more than 10,000 and a middle school established in the remote area in 1991 was so far without the required number of teachers. They said that the school was being run by four teachers, including a drawing master and a physical education teacher.

The leaders of the protesters said that a post of secondary school teacher (SST) and two posts of certificate teachers (CT) were vacant in the school since long. They claimed that they had to shift their children from the school to the schools of Mianwali district owing to non-availability of teachers in it. They said that they approached the high-ups of education department but to no avail. The protesters said that a primary school for girls was under construction in the area. They said that work should be expedited on it so that classes could be started in the current academic session.

PARAMEDICS: The local chapter of Paramedical Association staged a protest here on Saturday to demand timescale and professional allowance.

The paramedics, led by Mohammad Asim, marched from women and children hospital and reached Saddam Chowk where they blocked the road to traffic.
