Three convicts hanged

SIALKOT: Two death row prisoners were hanged in Sialkot district jail while one convict was hanged at the Sahiwal Central Jail on Tuesday morning.

Abid Maqsud and Sanaullah were hanged in Sialkot district jail after 18 years of their conviction in a rape case.

They were convicted of raping a minor girl in Waan-Begowala village, Sambrial.

A murder convict from Lahore was hanged at the Central Jail in Sahiwal.

Nawaz alias Kaka had gunned down Zahid Mahmood over a dispute on Sept 24, 1995. A murder case was registered against him with Lower Mall police.

Lahore Additional District and Sessions Judge Syed Iftikhar Husain announced Kaka’s death sentence on May 8, 2000.

His mercy appeals had been rejected by the courts and the president on May 12.

District and Sessions Judge Tariq Iftikhar issued his death warrant.

Jail sources confirmed Kaka was executed and his body handed over to his family members.
