KARACHI: The Pakistan Peoples Party has requested the Election Commission of Pakistan to hold the local government elections on a divisional level in phases, it emerged during a party meeting jointly presided over by chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari and co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari on Monday.

If the request is accepted, the local bodies (LB) polls, which are due in September in Sindh, are unlikely to be conducted in one day but in phases to prevent recurrence of unpleasant incidents which claimed many lives in the recently held LB polls in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The meeting held at Bilawal House was attended by the party’s high command and elected representatives and office-bearers from Dadu district.

Speaking at the meeting, Mr Bhutto-Zardari said the party would field youths and workers in the elections in Sindh and Punjab. He asked them to get ready to take the responsibility to lead from the grass-roots level.

On the occasion, the PPP co-chairman ordered establishment of a complaint cell at Bilawal House where workers could lodge their complaints. The meeting also discussed development schemes of Dadu district.

The meeting was also attended by Bakhtawar Bhutto-Zardari, Senator-elect Sherry Rehman and members of the national assembly Rafiq Jamali and Imran Leghari.
