LAHORE: Double hat-trick by Ambreen backed by a hat-trick from Azra steered Wapda to a resounding 16-0 victory over Islamabad in the third All Pakistan Fatima Jinnah Gold Cup Hockey Tournament at the District Sports Ground in Multan on Friday.

Ambreen, who performed superbly throughout the match with fine dribbling, dodging and successful finishing, opened the scoring in the first minute. From then on, it was all Ambreen who struck a glut of goals for Wapda in the sixth, seventh, 12th, 14th and 24th minutes.

Azra also completed her hat-trick scoring in the 10th, 17th and 40th minutes.

Ayesha’s brace came in the ninth and 16th minutes while Maira (third), Nazia (fourth), Sidra (29th), Amina (37th) and Nafeesa (49th) scored a goal apiece as Islamabad women were simply outplayed in all departments.

Meanwhile, the encounter between Pakistan Army and Punjab University Club was abandoned due to heavy rain and both teams were awarded one point each.

The rain deprived the spectators of a thrilling conclusion of the match. Both teams fought hard for ball possession and launched a series of attacks and counter attacks.

Hina, Saba, Sehrish and Sana performed superbly for PU Club. Their combined moves featuring beautiful short passes surprised the opponents.

Army’s Saba Naz, Adeeba and Sana demonstrated their brilliance in dribbling, dodging and interception.

As the third quarter started, rain stopped play as small ponds in patches on the ground made it impossible for the officials to resume the match.

Saturday’s matches:

Army vs Punjab Whites, Sindh vs Islamabad.
