Rs29 million fine to bus driver in fatal crash

DERA GHAZI KHAN: Additional District and Sessions Judge Ishfaq Mehmood Sheikh on Thursday sentenced a driver to pay Rs29 million as compensation money to the families of 12 people run over by his bus when they were sitting alongside a road at Notak Ada in Kot Chhuta tehsil in April 2014.

Samar Meer Khan had run over and killed 12 people, four women among them, on April 17, 2014, at Notak Ada.

The court asked him to pay Rs29 million to 12 families.

Three killed: Three persons died and many others were injured when a Taunsa-bound passenger coach coming from Balochistan plunged into a deep ditch as one of its tyres burst on Dera-Quetta Road.

Sources said the bus skidded into a 200-foot deep ditch near Rakhi Gaaj Border Military police station.

BMP employee Haji Zaman said the accident left three persons including the bus driver dead.

BMP Commandant Shahid Mehboob said rescue operation was under way.
