KARACHI: Despite opener Shoaib Ahmed scoring a superb century on Sunday, Karachi earned a handy 70-run lead on the first innings against Dera Murad Jamali on the second day of the three-final of the PCB-Pepsi Cricket Stars Under-16 Tournament in Faisalabad.

Replying to Karachi’s 315 at the Iqbal Stadium, Dera Murad Jamali resumed the day at 51-0 and were all out for 245 in 74 overs. By stumps on Sunday, Karachi had increased that lead to 195 by reaching 125-5 in their second innings.

Shoaib, who was batting on 39 at close of play on Saturday, was the mainstay of Dera Murad Jamali’s innings as he struck 10 boundaries in making 113 from 148 deliveries.

All-rounder Fida Hussain also played an excellent knock o hit 70 off 170 balls with the aid of four fours.

Aarish Kaimkhani was the best of the Karachi’s bowlers with four wickets for 98 runs, while Mohammad Usman grabbed three wickets for just nine runs.

Opener Syed Mohammad Amin contributed 52 (off 147 balls, four boundaries) in his team’s second innings, while Tariq Butt made 38 and Obaisullah followed up his 81 in the first innings by scoring an undefeated 25.

Abdul Waheed claimed three of the wickets to fall for 27 runs.
