KARACHI: Nouman Aftab, Eibad Sarwar, Zubair Raja, Sameer Ali won their respective matches in their categories on the opening day of the 3rd Essa Lab Open Tennis tournament here on Saturday at the Karachi Gymkhana.

Nouman beat Sahabzada Mubeen 6-1,6-2 in the Under-18 category while Asad Khan also won 6-1-, 6-2. In the U-16 singles, Eibad sarwar beat Mazhar Hayat 6-1, 6-1 and Zubair beat Parbat 7-6, 3-6, 6-1 in a tough encounter.

The event carries a prizemoney of Rs 100,000.

Dr, Sabiha Essa was the chief guest on the occasion while former Davis Cupper and STA president Khawaja Saeed Hai, Dr Farhan Essa, Aslam Khan, Khalid Rehmani and others were also present.

Nouman Aftab bt Sahabzada M Mubeen 6-1, 6-2; Asad Khan bt Eibad Sarwar Hussain Khan 6-1, 6-2.

U-16 Singles:

Eibad Sarwar Hussain Khan bt Mazhar Hayat 6-1,6-1; Nusrullah Khan bt M Ahmed 1-0 — retired; Zubair Raja bt Parbat Khan 7-6, 3-6, 6-1.

U-14 1 Singles:

Sameer Ali bt Zain Ali 8-2; Munir Ali bt Syed Haris—walkover.

U-10 Singles:

Hammad Khan bt Abdullah Aftab 8-0.
