KARAK: The parents have demanded of the authorities to fill the vacant posts of teachers the girls’ degree college, Karak, including its principal, or they would stage protests.

The parents, including Zahir Gul, Sabir Shah, Sadat Khan, Gul Abbas and others, told Dawn here on Saturday that post of the principal had long been vacant, affecting the functioning of the college. They said that posts of lecturers of different subjects, particularly science, had also been lying vacant, forcing students to seek admission to the colleges of other districts.

They said poor parents could not afford heavy expenses of private colleges.

The parents claimed that the strength of students at the college was decreasing every year due to shortage of staff. They claimed that the students had to depend on tuition to prepare for exams.

They also complained that there was also shortage of drinking water in the college and the girls students had to bring drinking water in bottles from their homes.

They demanded that the college’s transport facility should be extended to the students of Chountra area.

Meanwhile, a man was killed and his two friends sustained serious injuries when lightning struck them in Andi Karak area on the night between Friday and Saturday. The victim was identified as Abid, resident of Karak city. The other two injured were referred to Peshawar in critical condition.
