KARACHI: An angry mob lynched two men who shot a police officer after allegedly trying to rob him in Korangi area of the city on Saturday night, sources said.

According to the sources, three men stopped Nasir Abbas, an assistant sub-inspector of police at the Anti-Car Lifting Cell, near the Baqri petrol pump in Korangi and tried to rob him.

But Mr Abbas put up resistance. Enraged, the men shot at and wounded him.

The police officer was taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, where he died of his injuries, said head of the hospital’s emergency department, Dr Seemin Jamali.

In the meantime, a mob had gathered at the crime scene. The angry people caught two of the suspects and beat them up severely, killing them on the spot.

Apparently not satisfied with their death, the mob proceeded to torch their bodies.

Khan Mohammad Sheikh, the SHO of the Korangi police station, told Dawn that the mob wanted to burn the bodies but the police on the scene stopped them from doing so.

However, Dr Jamali said the bodies had clear burn injuries.
