KARACHI: Hosts Neighbourhood Club and Bounce Club conjured up magnificent victories over their respective opponents on the opening day of Nasir Jamali memorial basketball tournament at the former floodlit court Clifton on Saturday.

Ahad Javeri starred with 18 points as Neighbourhood sent Malir Trojan packing 48-28 after leading 23-17 at half time. Raja Jehanzeb scored eight points.

Babar finished in double figures for the losers with 14 and was followed by Stuart six.

The pair of Shahmir and Muzammil guided Bounce Club get past Clifton Crossovers 42-17 in another one-sided fixture.

Shahmir finished with 18 while Muzammil scored 12 for the winners. Kashif Khan and Ishaq contributed nine and five for losers.

Earlier, the teams were introduced to the chief guest Sindh Labour Minister Mohammad Asghar Ali Khan Junejo. Karachi Basketball Assoc­iation secretary Abdul Nasir, organising secretary Hammad N D Khan and Faisal Jamali, younger brother of the deceased, were among others who were present on the occasion.

Former Education Minister of Balochistan Nasir Jamali, who had a passion for sports, died of cardiac arrest in the Neighbourhood Park on March 29. He was 45.

“He was an outstanding sportsman having won Aitchison College colour in hockey, basketball, football and athletics, which is distinction,” his brother Faisal Jamali told Dawn.
