KARACHI: Director-General Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Major-General Asim Bajwa on Friday condemned the statements made by Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) chief Altaf Hussain regarding the Pakistan Army and said the matter would be legally pursued.
In a series of tweets, the DG termed the MQM chief's remarks regarding the army and its leadership as "uncalled for and disgusting", adding that such references to the army and its leadership in response to the arrest of criminals who may have links with a political party would not be tolerated.

Maj-Gen Bajwa said legal action would be taken against such remarks and the use of media to incite the people of Pakistan to rise against the state.

He also tweeted that the army and law enforcement agencies would continue to carry out operations as assigned to them.

The MQM's Rabita Committee said in a statement that party chief Altaf Hussain had not criticised the military leadership.
The statement added that the MQM supremo had rather praised the steps taken by the army and asked Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif to dispense justice.
Earlier, MQM chief Altaf Hussain in a late night address criticised the military and said the party had always been discriminated against.
"Those who surrendered are called patriots while the founders of Pakistan are dubbed as traitors,” he said.

Altaf claimed that those in the corridors of power had never accepted them as "sons of the soil". He said that "Pakistan would bear irreparable loss, if atrocities against us [the MQM] are not stopped".
The MQM supremo said that other ethnic groups had also established nationalist organisations in the country but only his party was subjected to operations.
He said that earlier in 1992, members of the MQM were declared as Indian agents and also raised the point as to why the MQM is always linked with India and not with any other country.

Irresponsible and hateful remarks by Altaf Hussain, trying to incite hatred angainst our Armed Forces and promote ethnic division. Everyone should note there are millions of Mohajirin living in Punjab and other provinces of Pakistan as well who consider themselves ONLY PAKISTANI and dont consider it their "hereditary resposibilty to maintain contact with India". His hateful speeches against Armed Forces should be taken to court and telephone hatred should be banned.

Its not the matter of agreeing or disagreeing with anyone. I am urdu speaking and Pakistani (not muhajir). I didn't feel anything like what Altaf Hussain is saying. Pakistanis are Pakistanis no matter where are they from. If MQM has connections with India then its a right time to declare them otherwise they will always play the victim game and will be attacked again. No compromise on Pakistani soil. Also it seems like Altaf is happy that we lost the war in 71 and that is why he is trying make fun of Armed forces. Only Indians can Only be happy on that.

No doubt Altaf is telling the truth, but for "national interest" sometimes "false faith" is better. It is better for Pakistan to believe that PML-N is not a Punjabi party, PPP is not Sindhi and PTI is not Pakhtun. Blaming MQM being pro-Mohajir is perhaps true but blaming them pro-India is not.

The Police needs to be depoliticised. It needs to be under the Army. Only then there there would be discipline and peace. The politicians will never let this happen as the status quo suits them. If the Police is under the Army, as the Rangers are, Pakistan would be a different country to live in. The Police must have all facilities as the Army has in terms of pay, allowances, etc

@Muradabadi Those who were born in Pakistan after it's creation are not Mohajirs if their parents were and should stop calling themselves Mohajirs, as the word Mohajir means one who migrated from one place or country to other and I know that many of them have never been out of Karachi city. Secondly it's not for them to call themselves Mohajir as it's not a title, but instead, it is for others to call someone Mohajir irrespective of what language one speaks if it applies to him/her. For that matter those who migrated from what became Pakistan in 1947 to India are also Mohajirs but they call themselves Indians and the ones who are in Pakistan should feel proud by calling themselves Pakistanis instead of calling themselves Mohajirs.

Each and every person in Pakistan can only be part of the Pakistani nation. I speak URDU and my grandparents also migrated at the time of independence and I am a Pakistani ONLY. MQM isn't the founder of Pakistan. Quaid-e-Azam was the founder of Pakistan and he was born in KARACHI. Karachi, just like every other inch of Pakistan, is Quaid-e-Azam's and his ideology and not of any other political figure. Winning elections in one constituency doesn't make one party the owner of Karachi. Everybody should live peacefully and focus on being Pakistanis only. ONLY Pakistani Nation Zindabad!!

Those who are telling Mohajirs to call themselves only Pakistanis should know that Mohajirs are the last people to started using ethnic card in Pakistan. Other ethnicities have been using it since Pakistan's inception. Here in USA Pakistani Punjabis feel more comfortable with Indian Punjabis then Mohajirs or Pashtuns from Pakistan. Pakistani Pashtuns feel more comfortable with Afghan Pashtuns then with Pakistani Punjabis or Mohajirs.

I am an Urdu speaking and a supporter of MQM in its initial days. Over the years it has turned into Mutahida Qaumi Mafia. Has brought shame to all Urdu speaking with the way Bhatta was obtained. Qurbani skins were obtained at gun point. We are all witnesses to this. It's time for MQM to mend its ways.

Power hungers need to understand that if they dont change their mindset this turmoil would continue and become worst in future. Hold local bodies elections and if MQM is the major winner let them appoint mayor with full power and authorities, establish local policing system and appoint local police commissioner, provide jobs to local people and release due funds to the local bodies. This will surely remove MQM grievances and slogan of new province. But the power hungry politicians from interior do not want that and they await for worst to come.

Britain's Prime Minister once said "I love my country more than my party"... The day Pakistani politicians/people say this, half of its problems with disappear. Everyone in Pakistan today should be grateful to the army who are defending them against internal and external threats and is the only reason why Pakistan is still on the map. If army was so vehemently against mohajirs, as some people seem to claim here, then we would not have seen Musharraf and Aslam Baig and a large number of army officers hailing from urdu speaking families - Musharraf and Aslam baig put together over represent urdu speaking population in the Army's top command (in proportion to the urdu speaking population in the country). Mohajirs are still much better off than people of other provinces - they are well represented in beurocracy, govt positions and among the cadres of political parties - A good number of them own prime property in Karachi and Hyderabad - go check the state of the people of rural Sindh, Punjab, KP and Baluchistan.

Irresponsible statement of Altaf Hussain is an efforts to malign and ridiculed armed forces. According to provision of our constitution judiciary and armed forces can not be ridiculed in the public eye. MQM is not the representative of Mohajir as it claimed, there are millions of Mohajir in Punjab and other provinces but they call themselves Pakistani not Mohajir. I am also failed to understand why our media is so irresponsible and what PEMRA is doing to have a check on media for airing such malicious language against Pakistan Army.

It is unfortunate that we are heading towards head on collision between Army and one political party.
Political problems cannot be solved by force. We must learn lesson from the past. The situation can easily escalate out of control.
If the govt thinks that banning MQM would solve the problem then think twice. If MQM and its leaders go underground then outside forces will play havoc with Karachi and Pakistan.
I hope Army has not decided to go full force against MQM as that will be detrimental for Pakistan. People of Karachi are not buying this narrative that MQM is terrorist as we saw in the elections.
The narrative of criminal element by Army , govt and media should be applied to all including Nawaz Sharif party.
There will be no reaction if all are treated equally.

Every one knows what the MQM has been doing in Karachi. Law enforcement agencies have been reluctant to take stern action because MQM has the political backing of Urdu Speaking Karachietes who then create troubles in the city. There is a need to take bold action and eliminate those involved in anti sate activities.

I could not understand why ISPR giving so importance to Altaf Hussain statement. This is not first time in Pakistan. So many others said so many times. Giving the importance MQM will be more strong and it will be easy to play Mohajir card . Per capita income in Karachi is around $5000 as compared to rest of the country where it is below $1000.
On average more Karachiites are employed in government corporations,private companies and multinationals. Think about banking , insurance or oil and gas sectors more Karachiites are employed as compared to any other group.
Karachiites have best educational and health facilities than any other region-all built either by tax payers money or someone who lived in Karachi before partition.
Karachi gets uninterrupted power supply even though weather there is not as extreme as in Sibi, Jacobabad or Multan which are suffering 18 hours load shedding with 48 degree centigrade!
Almost every house is supplied with gas whereas the areas where it is supplied from are without it.
Still Karachhites are complaining of discrimination !

Yes, there is a discrimination but there is no mujahirs so stop this Mujahirs business and it is getting old. Hmmm, was there something factually incorrect in what Altaf Hussein said? The army's depraved excesses in Bdesh, its abject capitulation to Sam Manekshaw is captured in print and in pictures. Wasn't is traitorous to deliberately disallow BDesh and Rehman his constitutionally mandated prime-ministership, thereby breaking the nation into two? Aren't they doing the same to Karachi and MQM now as also in Balochistan? Let us all see if the ISPR really have the guts to take this to court, Altaf will again have the last laugh as usual !!
