MARDAN/UPPER DIR: Four people, including two women, were killed in separate honour-related incidents in Mardan and Upper Dir on Wednesday.

In Mardan, the officials of Takhtbai police station said that one Qamar Ali had been arrested after he allegedly killed his wife and a man, identified as Nisar.

The incident took place in the Labour Colony area of Takhtbai tehsil.

They quoted Qamar Ali as saying that he had gunned down his wife and the man, Nisar, for having illicit relation. He told police officials that he was suspicious for quite some time about the illicit relations between his wife and Nisar who was living in the neighborhood.

The police quoted Qamar Ali as saying that he killed both after getting confirmation through his monitoring for several days as the matter was earning a bad name for his family.

The police recorded statement of the alleged killer and have started further investigation.

In Upper Dir, a man and woman were killed in the name of honour in Brawal on Wednesday.

According to police, one Said Alam, a resident of Chenda Kot Brawal Bandi, opened fire on his sister and a man, Rahimullah, killing both on the spot. Police said that Rahimullah and Said Alam were close relatives. The police registered the case and have started raids to arrest the accused.

STUDENTS PROTEST: Students and their parents organised a demonstration to protest against the shifting of a school from Shahoor Sheringal in Upper Dir.

The parents said that their children had been facing problems after the education department shifted the Maktab school from Shahoor to Menathal area.

Malik Said Alam and other residents said that Matkab school system still existed in the remote areas of the district.

They said that shifting of the school would deprive about 70 students, both boys and girls, of their basic right to education.

They said that a primary school already existed in the area where the Maktab school was shifted. They threatened to start a protest campaign if the decision of shifting the school from their area was not reversed.
