KARACHI: Khan Research Laboratories (KRL) recorded their second straight win in the NBP Challenge Cup when they edged Sui Northern Gas Pipelines (SNGPL) 1-0 to advance to the quarter-finals where they were joined by K-Electric on Saturday.

Mohammad Naveed scored the winner three minutes from time at the Model Town Stadium in Lahore as four-time winners KRL booked a last eight spot from Group ‘D’ and condemned SNGPL to a second successive defeat which sent them out of the running for a quarter-final spot.

K-Electric, who beat SNGPL in their opening match, also advanced from the group despite being held to a goalless draw by Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) at Lahore’s Model Town Stadium.

Meanwhile, 2013 winners National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) reinvigorated their title hopes with a last-gasp 2-1 victory over Saif Textile after they were humbled 3-0 by Higher Education Commission (HEC) in their Group ‘A’ opener.

Rai Akmal scored deep into stoppage time to secure victory for Nasir ismail’s winner after Mustafa’s strike just before the hour mark at the Railways Stadium in Lahore had cancelled out Maqbool’s opener for NBP in the 46th.
