Junaid to replace injured Sohail for Bangladesh ODIs

Pakistan's heavily-built fast bowler Sohail Khan will miss the upcoming tour of Bangladesh after sustaining a back injury during a conditioning camp at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore, chief selector Haroon Rasheed confirmed.

The 31-year-old Sohail, who was a vital part of Pakistan's pace attack at the World Cup picking up 12 wickets, will be replaced by left-arm paceman Junaid Khan who missed the tournament with a knee injury.

Sohail has been advised two weeks rest by the medical team and it is unclear whether he will make the Bangladesh trip at all.

"After the uncertain fitness of Sohail, we have decided to add Junaid Khan to continue in the ODIs as well," Rasheed told ESPNcricinfo.

"We cant say how serious Sohail's injury is at the moment but he is presently advised two weeks rest."

Pakistan open the Bangladesh tour with the first of three one-day internationals in Dhaka next Friday. They also play a Twenty20 international and two tests.

Why was Junaid not in the ODI team in the first place? I'd have loved to see Saddaf Hussain guy who is talked very big by a lot of people following pakistan domestic circles.

Nowadays it has become a sort of norm for pakistani bowlers to get injured exactly before upcoming series. Quite strange.

u cant play if not fit otherwise it will make ur injury worst..its not same for an athlete..dont compare them to your daily job

We have highly paid physiotherapists and trainers in our team management. Right? Would someone please evaluate their role and contributions? Even the issue of Irfan getting injured right when he was needed during the world cup should be questioned by professionals in this field. The explanation of him being too tall and huge built is not excusable reason. There are lots of international sports with 7 footers and hugely built sportsmen, and they have professional physios, trainers, nutritionists and they are not so frequently injured and out of action. Something to think about!! I always thought Sohail as least prone to injury. Because he seems most athletic and his bowling action is pretty simple. Need some better and reasonable answers from our managers.

@Honey Badger Wake up! Junaid was unfit and immediately after recovering you can not get rythem.To compete at international level is not a child's play. Nobody knows effectiveness of Saeed Ajmal as he has remodeled his action ,even he himself doesn't know. People who have cricketing sense they all know this.

@sayeed because believe it or not, Pakistan still makes best fast bowlers among all teams. Also, in a competitive environment pushing limits is quite normal.

@Honey Badger Good point. WC is over and all of sudden Junaid is available. Saeed I understand was held back. For all the critics of Sohail he served his country and delivered for Pakistan at the WC. He did plenty well given his international experience. Imagine the alternative for WC i.e. if we had gone there without him.

@Honey Badger Junaid failed the fitness test and could not be sent to WC. Saeed was banned by ICC for his bad bowling action. Have a cup of coffee, subah ho gaee mamoon

@Dawn what is wrong with you as a news media? Why are there no news on the hockey front - the Azlan Shah Tournament is going on? Why no coverage on other cricket news like Brendon McCullum's 100 in T20 cricket or Gayle's 96 of 56 balls in another T20 cricket match... plenty of other world news has no coverage in Dawn and you keep covering meaningless items.... how are Pakistanis going to know what is happening around the world!!

This is what I say...Pakistan Cricket needs to focus on fitness of players. Pakistani players needs to know that they need to be fit all the time. Having heavy body is and pacing is not a good way to handle fast bowling. Body Mass should be proportionate to height.

I don't understand why people are happy hearing the news that Sohail Khan is injured. I think he was very impressive in the world cup. In fact, our whole bowling lineup was very impressive. It was our batting and fielding that let us down.

@Aqil Siddiqi Amir's ban will end in September this year. He has been given a favor by being allowed to play in domestic circuit.
