HYDERABAD, Sept 27: Sindh will achieve expected production target of 2.4 million cotton bales after varietal change in upper Sindh where growers have cultivated virus resistant varieties.

This was stated by director-general, Agriculture Research and Extension, Malik Mohammad Akram on Saturday while discussing the report of 8-member committee which surveyed the crop in nine cotton growing districts.

He said there were mild cases of the CLCV (disease) on the NIAB-78 and others varieties like CIM-473, FH-901, FH-1000, CIM-446.

The reddening disease in cotton crop was also minimized due to the increased level of moisture, favourable climatic conditions and management of crop in terms of manure and watering.

The experts were of the view the crop had been delayed for one to two weeks and phutti arrival is expected to improve in the end of September due to rains.
