TANK: A key commander of the local peace committee was killed while two volunteers suffered bullet injuries when unknown assailants attacked their vehicle here on Tuesday.

Commander Sherpao Mehsud along with volunteers was on way home from Gomal bazaar when unknown miscreants hiding in wheat fields opened fire on their vehicle in Jata area. As a result commander Sherpao was killed while two volunteers, Anwar and Waseem, sustained critical injuries.

The injured were taken to the District Headquarters Hospital, Tank, wherefrom they were referred to the District Headquarters Hospital, Dera Ismail Khan, in critical condition.

The attackers managed to escape the area after the incident.

Sher Afzal, father of the deceased peace volunteer, got a case registered against unknown assailants.

It may be recalled that several members of peace committees have been killed by unknown assailants in targeted attacks. The peace committees were formed after the 2009 operation Rah-i-Nijat against the militants in the area.
