KASUR: An alleged dacoit was killed in a police ‘encounter’, while five of his accomplices managed to escape near Jambar on Monday.

According to police, six alleged robbers were looting people by setting up a picket on Multan Road near Khan Kay Mor, Jambar.

A police team led by Phoolnagar Station House Officer Muhammad Ayub was patrolling the area. When the suspects saw police, they started firing which was retaliated. After an hour of crossfire, one suspect was killed while the remaining escaped.

According to District Police Officer (DPO) Rai Babar Saeed, the suspect was killed in firing by his own accomplices and was involved in several cases of heinous crimes.

He was identified as Azam alias Ajju. A pistol, bullets and a mobile phone were recovered from his possession.

Raiding teams were formed to arrest the fleeing suspects, the DPO added.

RAPE: A seven-year-old girl was allegedly raped here in Hanjrai Kalan on Monday.

The girl had gone to a field with her uncle to get fodder. While the uncle was cutting the fodder, a man allegedly grabbed the girl, took her towards taller crops and raped her.

On hearing the girl’s cries, people passing by reached there, however, the suspect managed to escape. Later, police claimed to have arrested the suspect and registered a case against him.

ACCIDENT: The driver of a bus was severely injured when a train hit a bus.

According to police sources, a bus was on its way to pick up workers from Pattoki. Driver Salamat Ali tried to cross the Landa railway crossing, Pattoki, when a Lahore-bound express train hit the vehicle.

Ali was injured seriously and referred to Jinnah Hospital, LAhore, from Pattoki THQ Hospital.
