PESHAWAR, Sept 26: District Nazim Azam Afridi said on Thursday that construction of second phase of the Rehman Baba flyover would commence shortly.
Speaking at the guest hour programme at the press club, he said Chief Minister Akram Khan Durrani was expected to inaugurate work on the project.
He said construction of an underpass of the project was near completion and it would be opened for traffic soon.
He said the removal of encroachment from congested places had been completed with the cooperation of the people.
He said petrol pumps and mosques situated on the GT Road were removed after providing alternative places for them.
He said installation of street lights on the ring road from Hayatabad to Bara had been completed and the work up to the Kohat Road would be undertaken in the next phase.
He said girls college had been opened in each town of the district.
He said the building of the defunct municipal corporation was being used for the City District College.
He said girls colleges had been established in Nauthia, Dabgari Gardens and Hayatabad.
He said the chief minister had announced Rs10 million for improvement in the water supply and drainage system and the same amount for repair of major roads.
He said the chief minister had also assured the district government that new vehicles would be provided for fire brigade.
He said complete understanding existed between the district and town governments.—APP
