BAJAUR: Authorities here on Monday lifted the night-time curfew in the Lowi Mamund tehsil.

A statement issued here said the curfew was imposed weeks ago over security concerns.

The restriction was lifted on the directives of Deputy Commissioner Shahid Ali Khan. The statement, however, did not mention the names and areas where the curfew was lifted.

The statement, which was also posted on the deputy commissioner’s official Facebook page, appreciated the residents for their patience during the restrictions. He added that the district administration was thankful to the people of Lowi Mamund for their cooperation.

The statement added that residents could resume night-time movement as usual. It also requested them to report any suspicious activity in their areas to the police.

Meanwhile, political and social activists and elders welcomed the decision.

PTI MPA Dr Hamidur Rehman said the move would help restore normalcy in the region.

“The closed roads in some areas of War Mamund tehsil will soon be reopened as I am in contact with the district administration officials,” the MPA said in a social media post on Monday evening.

Meanwhile, a delegation of the Bajaur Aman Jirga led by its chief Sahibzada Haroon Rashid also met the deputy commissioner and urged him to ensure the reopening of roads in some areas of War Mamund, which had been closed due to security concerns weeks ago.

According to a social media post by Mr Rashid, the delegates informed the official about the difficulties residents were facing due to the roads’ closure. The deputy commissioner promised to do so.
