Two judges come to blows at Kharian

GUJRAT, Sept 25: A scuffle involving use of punches and shoes was reported between an additional district and sessions judge and a civil judge in the latter’s court and retiring room at Kharian on Thursday.

Sources told Dawn on the condition of anonymity that the incident took place when civil judge Munir Ahmad Gill refused to obey the orders of Additional District and Sessions judge Mian Muhammad Anwar.

They said a justice of the Lahore High Court had directed Mian Anwar to send a case file to Lahore, as a party had moved towards it. Mr Anwar passed on the order (in writing) to the civil judge in whose court the file was available.

When Mr Gill did not present the file, Mian Anwar sent his court employee to the civil judge, who replied:” I am busy at this moment, come later.” After an hour, they claimed Mian Anwar again sent his employee to the civil judge, who refused to comply with the orders of the sessions judge.

Upon this, Mian Anwar, along with an employee Riaz, went to the civil judge and asked him to see him in the retiring room, the sources said, adding, the civil judge refused to follow the instructions and rather asked the visitor to get out of his court because he was busy with a case.

In a rush of blood, Mian Anwar dragged the civil judge towards the retiring room where Riaz also entered. Both the judges punched and kicked each other, the sources said, and added that Riaz also assisted the sessions judge in the brawl.

Later, an emergent meeting of the Kharian Bar Association was convened by its president Mian Nasir, and the participants decided not to interfere in the affair.
