GUJRAT: The local election commission office has officially started working on delimitation for local bodies polls following District Election Commissioner Majid Sharif Dogar’s appointment as the district delimitation officer by the provincial election commission.

Assistant commissioners of Gujrat, Kharian and Sara-i-Alamgir tehsils had been appointed as assistant delimitation officers of their respective tehsils.

Dogar held an initial meeting with District Coordination Officer Liaquat Ali Chattha on Monday regarding preparations for delimitation whereas a formal meeting of the delimitation staff would be held within a week.

Talking to Dawn, District Election Commissioner Dogar said delimitation would be done in accordance with the 1998 census and the initial process would be completed within two months by May 14, 2015.

Dogar said the previous delimitation done by district administration officials would not be considered and the election commission staff would independently work now keeping in view the prescribed rules and regulations. However, local administration officials would assist the election commission in this regard.
