KARACHI: Two stable-mate horses — seven-year-old bay mare Capri and unknown pedigree chestnut colt Star Gold — galloped home to do the owner and trainer proud in a four-race card of the Gymkhana race meeting at the Karachi Racecourse on Sunday.

At the outset, long shot Capri upset the applecart sprinted to a length-and-a-half victory over favourite filly Nany not only to avenge defeat but also denying her to make it two on trot.

Second favourite mare Pampas Grass finished third four lengths behind while bay horse Sohna Noor completed the frame finishing two lengths further away among seven starters.

It is pertinent to mention that Nany, Pampas Grass and Sohna Noor had occupied top three positions ahead of Capri in their last run on Feb 14.

Owned by M. Shakeel and trained by Mujahid Ali, Capri, who also opened her year’s account, was ridden home by Wasim in style.

Champion rider Mohammad Essa powered public fancy Star Gold to four lengths victory over bay horse Grey Song by to stretch his winning run in the third race.

Second favourite Lava Man and Satisfy occupied the next two places respectively on board.

In an earlier race, owned and trained by Mohyuddin, unknown bay filly Khazana overcome the jinx by getting the better of colt Free Hand by half-a-length to pick up spoils.

Beautiful Rose was placed third two lengths away while co-favourite Bugash Bugash settled fourth by short head.

Rider Abdul Rahim shone in the saddle by storming a brace of winners when he piloted six-year-old bay horse Swell Victory home by two lengths in the fourth race, which was also the day’s feature event.

After steering Khazana to triumph, Rahim proved his mettle while imposing to victory over filly Sensational.

The two horses were followed by stable-mates — Jahalwan Love and Jahalwan Blue — who occupied third and fourth slots respectively among five starters.
