SUKKUR, Sept 24: Bus drivers and passengers blocked the Indus Highway, near Karampur, Jacobabad district, on Wednesday following opening of fire by dacoits on buses as a result of which one passenger was injured.

Two buses (PSA-059 and QG-3737) were stopped by 12 armed dacoits. Sensing danger, the drivers kept on going. The dacoits opened fire as a result of which a passenger, Amanat Ali Pathan, was injured.

Later, the passengers and bus drivers blocked the Indus Highway for some time and raised slogans against the police.

GIRL KILLED: Seven armed men barged into the house of one Mohammad Khan Narejo and opened indiscriminate fire as a result of which his daughter, Amna, 9, was killed on the spot while the man and his son, Saleem, were injured in the Pir Mohammad village, near Tando Masti, Khairpur district, on Tuesday.

Both the injured were taken to a hospital.

Police sources said that the attack on the house of Mohammad Khan Narejo was the result of an old Karo-kari dispute between both the parties. However, no case was registered.

RAIDS CONDUCTED: After registration of an FIR against 11 Mahar tribesmen on Tuesday, police conducted raids the whole night but no one was arrested.

Tension between the Mahar and Almani tribes is mounting in Sukkur and Ghotki districts after the marriage of one Shaista Almani with one Balakh Sher Mahar.

Meanwhile, Sub-Inspector Abdul Jabbar, brother of Balakh is absconding since the last six days. His other relatives too have shifted from Pano Aqil to an undisclosed location.

Earlier, the chief minister, Sindh, Ali Mohammad Khan Mahar, while talking to newsmen at the Circuit House on Tuesday said that the marriage must not spark a clash between the two tribes.

He hoped that the matter would be resolved peacefully by the elders of both the tribes.

ACTIVISTS: Hundreds of activists of the Shahree Ittehad observed hunger strike in front of the Jacobabad Press Club on Wednesday against the non-availability of water in the city.

The protesters demanded the Sindh government to release funds for water projects.
