KARACHI, Sept 23: The Pakistan Peoples’ Party has taken exception to reports about the alleged attempts against horse trading by the regime to wean away some of the opposition legislators for consolidating powers of Gen Musharraf.

In a joint statement issued by the media cell at Bilawal House, the central leaders of the party termed it worst kind of state conspiracy and regretted that the Election Commission and judiciary had not yet taken notice of such reports.

The Information Secretary of PPP, Taj Haider, Nawab Yusuf Talpur, N.D. Khan, Manzoor Wassan, Agha Siraj Durrani and Munawar Suharwardy stated that such a conspiracy had been hatched to protect the uniform of one man by putting the honour of uniform of thousands of jawans and other ranks at stake.

They warned that if Gen Musharraf again resorted to the apex court for the validation of his “constitutional package” it would lead to the destruction of basic structure of the country. They said that the onus of this destruction would be on those politicians, who were acting on dictation of the regime due to the threat of National Accountability Bureau.

They said that attempts to form “Musharraf Peoples’ Party” would meet the fate of Progressive Peoples’ Party and National Peoples’ Party.— Our Reporter
