KARACHI: A suspected gangster linked with Lyari criminal gangs was gunned down in what police described as an encounter that ensued during a raid on criminals’ hideout in Gulshan-i-Mazdoor area of Saeedabad on Sunday evening.

“The deceased identified as Shahnawaz alias Shani was a member of Uzair Baloch group and absconder in six cases,” claimed SHO Rafaqat Ali of the Saeedabad police station.

He had killed a police constable, Rashid, and was also involved in a grenade attack in Sajan Goth over non-payment of extortion. He was a close aide of Saddam, a gangster who was killed in an ‘encounter’ by CID police recently, said police.

The body was shifted to Civil Hospital Karachi.
