The Thai ambassador, Tomwit Jarnson, welcomed a large group of guests at a Halal Food and Cultural Festival last week. The embassy building provided an elegant backdrop, with a bridge over water leading into the reception area.

Embassy staff welcomed the guests by pinning an orchid on the jacket of each guest and handing out brochures about tourism and business opportunities in Thailand.

In the large auditorium hall, Sbun-Nga Chiang Mai Performance Troupe, who had come from Thailand for the event, presented traditional Thai dances. A tent covered the huge courtyard where dinner was served with a variety of scrumptious Thai delicacies.

Addressing guests, Ambassador Jarnson said Thailand produces high quality halal food items. He expressed hope that the dinner and the food festival at the Marriott Hotel would help strengthen ties between Pakistan and Thailand.

“People-to-people contact is part of Thailand’s policy of developing regional relationships. We hope that such activities would elevate our cordial relations to new heights,” he said.

The dean of the diplomatic corps, Argentine ambassador Rodolfo Martin Saravia, and the Marriott Hotel’s deputy general manager, Salman Saeed Khan, appeared especially jovial and guests impressed by Thai food and culture appeared to be dreaming of trips to Thailand.
