Encroachment

Published February 27, 2015

A UNION council office near the famous Gulzar-i-Habib mosque and ICMAP academy in Soldier Bazar in the jurisdiction of Karachi Cantonment Board has been in the use of encroachers for more than two decades.

This union council office is adjacent to a sewage drain.

The encroachers are selling the underground water as drinking water which is a hazard for human consumption. The vicinity is also notorious for moral and social ills as anti-social elements gather late in the evening to drink alcohol.

The area is fast becoming a rendezvous for criminal elements, owing to the continuing security operation in the city as the cantonment area is considered a safe place.

Opposite this office is a furniture market, an illegal cattle-pen on the first floor with cows and buffaloes adding to the insanitary conditions in the locality and posing another health hazard.

I request law enforcement agencies and the officials of cantonment boards to look into the matter.
