LAHORE: An anti-terrorism court awarded on Wednesday death sentence to four terrorists of the banned Al Qaeda organisation on 21 counts along with life imprisonment and a fine of Rs10.8 million in jail warders’ murder case.

Afzaal, Abdul Hafeez, Zulfiqar and Karamat attacked the warders’ hostel at Rasool Park in Lahore on July 12, 2012, and killed 10 under-training warders of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and injured seven others.

The terrorists were arrested one year after the attack from Minar-i-Pakistan ground along with heavy amount of ammunition.

They were tried under sections 302, 324, 353, 145, 148, 120-A of the PPC, 7 of the ATA and 3/4 of the ESA. Their fingerprints were matched with those found on guns and identification parade was done.

The deceased warders included Muhammad Ali, Muhammad Asif, Sharif­udin, Sardar Khan, Qamar Zaman, Khudaay-i-Noor, Yasir Maaruf, Muhammad Fayaz, Shafqat Rizwan and Azmat Hussain.

The trial court convicted the same terrorists in a separate case pertaining to carrying arms. They were awarded life imprisonment on two counts and 14 years of rigorous imprisonment.
