QUETTA: A landmine explosion on Thursday killed two people and injured two others in Balochistan's Naseerabad district.

Police sources told Dawn.com that the landmine exploded when four pedestrians hit it in the Chahtar area of Naseerabad.

“Two of them were killed on the spot, whereas two suffered serious wounds,” police said.

The injured were rushed to district headquarter hospital in Dera Murad Jamali for medical treatment.

The blast was heard over a wide radius, causing panic in the area. There has been no claim of responsibility for the blast.

Meanwhile, security forces conducted a raid near Sibi and arrested eight suspected militants.

According to Frontier Corps (FC) spokesman, security forces recovered 24kgs explosives and other weapons from their possession.

Security forces also claimed to have arrested three suspected militants in Turbat's Nasirabad area.

The FC Spokesman stated that the three militants were affiliated with a defunct organisation.

Militants have been targeting vital national installations including gas pipe lines, power pylons and railway tracks in the area for last more than seven years.
