KARACHI, Sept 20: Rashid Latif, the banned Pakistan captain, has called upon the public here to show the world that Karachi is a safe place for cricket.

Rashid, who was slapped with a five-match ODI ban for his controversial catch in the Multan Test, told Dawn on Saturday that he hoped Sunday’s match against Bangladesh passes off peacefully for the sake of Pakistan cricket and the country’s reputation.

“We can’t afford any more incident,” Rashid said in reference to Saturday’s decision by South Africa to cancel their tour of Pakistan. “The crowds here have always behaved very well and I am sure that they will prove once again that Karachi is not a dangerous place as far as playing cricket is concerned.”
