LAHORE: Student organisations have demanded that the government allow them their right to form unions according to the law of the land.

They say the students can poll their votes in provincial and national elections but are being deprived of establishing unions which were banned by Gen Ziaul Haq.

The Insaf Students Federation and Islami Jamiat Tulaba have said the previous government had announced holding of union elections within 100 days but could not fulfill its promise in its five-year tenure.

The spokesmen for both organisations say the government should announce student union elections to show it is a truly democratic set-up.
