LANDI KOTAL: Students of different government schools and their parents on Friday held a protest demonstration in Malagori area of Jamrud tehsil against shortage of teaching staff at schools.

The protesting students were holding banners and placards inscribed with slogans in support of their demands. They said that teaching staff in seven government schools built almost a decade ago had been absent from duties with no disciplinary action being taken against them by the local administration.

The students alleged that the education department officials were not interested in enhancing education standard in their area. Some students said that the long absence of teachers had compelled them to take admission in a school in Jamrud which was about ten kilometers from their homes.

On the occasion, Malik Mannan Mulagori and Sabz Ali Mulagori, local elders, said that five primary and a higher secondary schools in Paindi Lalma Mulagori had been constructed in 2002 at a cost of millions of rupees, but the required staff was not provided there. They said that local tribesmen had donated land for schools constructed in Lwara Mena, Jawara Mena, Paindi Lalma, Sher Bridge, Tatara, Mian Morcha and Azizabad areas, but the authorities failed to equip the schools with teachers.

The students demanded of the government to construct a girls degree collage in the area as most girls abandoned studies after passing SSC.
