GUJRAT: The district government has once again extended the deadline for the completion of computerisation of land revenue record as the slow pace of settlement and strikes by patwaris and other revenue staff have caused an inordinate delay. The new deadline to complete the project is Feb 28.

It is learnt that the land record of almost all 1,084 revenue estates (villages) in the district has been scanned by officials at the computerisation section but the process of 435 villages is yet to be notified after verification.

District Coordination Officer Liaquat Ali Chattha told this correspondent that the computerisation of 649 villages had already been done and verification of rest of the villages would be made by February-end.

The project was launched around eight years ago but it had to be stopped owing to the slow pace of settlement of the land revenue record.

An official of the land revenue department said the project had been going on smoothly for the last two years and the fresh periodical record register known as Jamma Bandi had been scanned. He said the next phase of verification had to be completed after which the record of any revenue estate would be considered functional in the official computer system to issue the computerised ownership deed (Fard Malkiyat) instead of the manual one being issued by the patwaris concerned.

He said 330 of the 540 villages of Gujrat tehsil, 254 of the 433 villages of Kharian tehsil and 75 of the 111 revenue estates of Sara-I-Alamgir tehsil had been made operational in the system.

The DCO said all hindrances like delaying tactics by some officials of the revenue department had been removed. He said the settlement process had been fully completed.
