MARDAN: A suspected militant was killed and three others were arrested and a security man was injured in a clash during a search operation in the Katlang tehsil of Mardan district on Monday.

Sources said the law-enforcement agencies personnel swung into action after receiving reports that some suspected militants were present in the Matta area of Katlang tehsil. Security personnel started combing the area and a curfew was imposed in adjoining localities.

During the search, fighting broke out in which a suspected militant identified as Gul Qadir was killed and his three accomplices were arrested. A security man was also injured.

Gul Qadir was accused of providing help to those who attacked retired Gen Pervez Musharraf in 2003.

The search operation was also conducted in Rustam, Sawaldher, Shamozai, Babuzai, Matta, Dheray Lipary and other adjacent localities.

All government and private educational institutions and bazaars in these areas remained closed during the operation.
