QUETTA: Commander Southern Command Lt Gen Nasser Khan Janjua has said that biometric system will be installed at borders in order to strengthen checking.

The biometric system will be installed at 300 points on Pakistan’s borders with both Afghanistan and Iran to keep vigil on people entering the country, he said.

Gen Janjua was addressing a ceremony held in connection with setting narcotics on fire in Kachh Mor area on the outskirts of Quetta on Monday. The drug was seized by Model Customs Collectorate Quetta from smugglers.

The commander said: “We have decided to install the biometric system on Pakistan’s borders with neighbouring countries after our security forces complained of difficulties in border security vigilance as people from...Iran and Afghanistan...enter Pakistan via 300 points which include illegal entry points.”

He said Pakistani forces faced problems in controlling narcotics smuggling when borders with the two countries were not fully safe and secure.

Collector Customs Zahoor Akhtar Raja said the seized narcotics included 3,939kg of hashish, 107kg of heroin and 29kg of opium.
