ISLAMABAD: The Federal Government Polyclinic Complex (FGPC), has been providing free of cost treatment to Hepatitis patients.

Last year, 35 patients of Hepatitis-B and 228 patients of Hepatitis-C were treated at the Polyclinic.

According to sources at the Capital Administration and Development Division (CADD) Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (Pims) has been providing free medicines to deserving Hepatitis-C patients.

The Pakistan Baitul Mal (PBM) provides financial assistance to Pims for this programme.

Nearly, 15 Hepatitis patients are supported every month under this programme, subject to availability and release of funds by PBM. Sources in CADD said that while the Federal Government hospitals provide vaccination and treatment, it is the responsibility of CDA to make safe drinking water available as hepatitis spreads through contaminated water.

The Federal Government and Capital Development Authority (CDA) have installed water filtration plants for public use in various sectors of Islamabad to control the spread of such diseases.

Moreover, Federal Government hospitals have also taken some steps to create awareness regarding hepatitis. Walks and public awareness seminars are also conducted for time to time to inform people about prevention.— APP
