OKARA: District Police Officer Faisal Rana has demanded that the higher authorities establish five new police stations in Okara to cope with the growing law and order challenges.

In a letter to the department higher-ups, the DPO has said the need to have five more police stations has been felt in view of lawlessness and after a survey. He says there are 18 police stations and 11 posts working under four police circles (City Okara, Saddar Okara, Renala and Deepalpur) for a population of three million.

He says Deepalpur is the biggest tehsil of Punjab which has only one police circle. The tehsil has 54 union councils out of the 114 in the district and has six police stations whereas Renala tehsil has 18 UCs and six police stations.

The letter further says Deepalpur revenue area spreads over 55 kilometres and its boundaries are connected with districts of Pakpattan, Bahawalnagar and Kasur. The police strength in the district, especially in Deepalpur, is very low to tackle crime.
