SUKKUR: A jirga (tribal court) held at Adam Khan Panhwar village in Jacobabad on Sunday evening settled an old dispute between the Dayo and Khoso communities that had led to the murder of two persons.

Presided over by former PPP minister Sardar Manzoor Khan Panhwar, the jirga was by Sardar Safdar Ali Dayo and a former union council nazim Mir Nisar Khan Khoso as well as a large number of people belonging to the two rival communities.

The jirga was informed that the dispute emerged when two Dayo women were kidnapped allegedly by some Khosos in 2011. In retaliation, the aggrieved side shot dead two persons, Ali Gul Khoso and Nawab Khoso, and wounded another member of the Khoso community.

After hearing the two sides, Sardar Panhwar held closed-room consultations with his advisers and later announced his ruling. He fixed a compensation of Rs800,000 for each murder and each kidnapping and Rs400,000 for causing wounds to a person.

The Dayo community was ordered to pay a total compensation of Rs2 million for committing two murders and wounding one persons while the Khoso community was told to pay a compensation of Rs1.6 million for kidnapping two Dayo women.

The two sides accepted the ruling and declared an end to the hostility.
