KARAK: The officers of the management cadre in the education department on Friday launched a token protest here, wearing black bands on their arms against the lack of promotion.

Assistant district officers (ADOs) education and sub-divisional education officers (male and female) of management cadre attended the token protest at the district offices of the education department.

They regretted that all cadres of teachers had been promoted to higher scales but the officers of management cadres had been kept deprived of promotion due to unknown reasons.

They claimed that the management cadre had taken steps to bring positive changes in the education department in line with the reforms agenda of the provincial government.

They said that with the upgradation of clerks the superintendent was given grade 17 and office assistant grade 16, which had threatened the survival of the gazetted officers (ADOs) as they were still working in grade 16.

As a result, they added that the upgraded clerks were no longer ready to work under their supervision.

They said that the government had given grade 17 to the secondary school teachers (SSTs), and regretted that the officers of management cadre of the same grade had not been promoted to next grade.

They said that the protest would continue till January 30, adding that a meeting of the cadre would be held on Sunday in Lakki Marwat to chalk out future line of action.

They appealed to Chief Minister Pervez Khattak to upgrade the management cadre officers forthwith so they could be able to carry forward the education reforms agenda.
