KARACHI: Art lovers and members of the media enjoyed the Japanese Calendar exhibition 2015 organised by the Consulate-General of Japan in collaboration with the Pakistan Japan Cultural Association Sindh and the Pakistan Japan Business Forum at the Japan Information and Culture Centre on Monday evening.

The exhibition, which is an annual feature, had 150 calendars on display. They depicted different aspects of Japanese life, ranging from world heritage sites to scenic beauties and from architectural development to a delightful variety of flowers. Each category was well represented, as it was obvious that a lot of creative input, with credible research, had gone into the making of the calendars. Apart from highlighting the cultural legacy and growth of the country, they also revealed the rapid advancement in the Japanese printing industry.

Speaking on the occasion, consul general of Japan in Karachi Akira Ouchi said the event signified the cultural diversity of his country. He hoped that visitors to the show would appreciate the four distinct seasons depicted in the calendars. He said the exhibition was an effective way of regular cultural exchanges. Mr Ouchi also pointed out the development that had taken place in the printing technology, as a result of which a certain level of refinement could be seen in the calendars.

Sindh minister for tourism and culture Sharmila Farooqui was the chief guest. Speaking to the media, she said the event would help bring the two countries closer to each other and appreciate the cultural diversities that existed in Japan and Pakistan. She said we in Pakistan too should organise such exhibitions so that the rest of the world could appreciate our cultural heritage.
