KARACHI: Former Sindh cricket captain and first-class batsman Dr Iqbal Shaikh died in Hyderabad on Friday after protracted illness. He was 80.
He played 22 first-class games from 1956 to 1971, scoring 866 runs at an average of 21.47 and took three wickets with his leg-break bowling.
Iqbal was considered one of the finest batsmen of his era performing outstandingly for Hyderabad, Sindh and National Bank teams.
Veteran cricket journalist Qamar Ahmed said he was the finest batsman of his time.
“He (Iqbal) narrowly missed selection in the Pakistan team,” Qamar said.
